Some things in history are so familiar to us that we rarely ask; is that what really what happened? Who we are today is the culmination of everything that happened in the past, our society today is the end result of all the trials and tribulations that went before us: the inventions we use every day that make modern life; the attitudes we have about how the world is and how it should be; the fashions we wear. Much of what happened in the past has been forgotten, even recent events in history. Some of it becomes part of popular history, these are usually momentous occasions such as wars or events that shake up the whole of society. They are all part of the fabric that makes up what the world is today.
With so much of the past forgotten, can we truly understand how we came to be what we are now. Whilst the most recent history, say the last hundred years, can be accessed with relative ease, with advancements in technology providing more opportunities to record past events as they happened, the earlier events that enabled that period to become what it was, and thus led to our world today, start to become more obscure, and the even earlier events before that even more so. In all humanities existence, it is only the very last bit that is known to us.
Historiology
So, the aim of this site is for a Historiological slant, we want to take any topic in history and discuss the real facts surrounding it. Is what we know about it a mythological understanding and yet so very familiar to us, so much so that the real story has become obscure or even forgotten. The full story sometimes will never be known, but we can always speculate.
